Summary
In this session, Jeffrey Marvel, MD, FAACS, moderator, and Robert Shumway, MD, FAACS, FACS, invite you to take a fresh look at rhinoplasty by exploring a variety of techniques with their expert panelists.
Scott McCusker, MD will present the Functional Aesthetic Septorhinoplasty: A unified method for robust, reliable results with low rates of complications.
Daria Hamrah, DMD, FAACS will then discuss the Supra-Tip as a Pivotal Landmark in artistry of rhinoplasty. He will demonstrate how comprehensive understanding of supratip anatomy and proper surgical techniques can dramatically elevate postoperative outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Using advanced suture techniques, Dr. Shumway will detail his Restoration Open Rhinoplasty surgery. He will literally reconstruct a nose by open reduction visually and then put the complex anatomy back together again. The Webster concept of the nasal triangle and pyramid will be emphasized, including how and what to suture.
Creation of a Double Break Nasal Profile in rhinoplasty surgery has been at best unpredictable, especially in patients with thick skin in the lower half of the nose. However, Ronald Strahan, MD, FAACS will introduce a contour suture technique that produced dependable results in his study, which he will detail in his presentation.
Next, Dr. Marvel will demonstrate how to simplify rhinoplasty through Rediscovery of the Cottle Technique. Dr. Marvel will present his experience and results in adopting this procedure that provides superior results and avoids tip dissection and disruption of the bony cartilaginous dorsum and supporting ligaments.
Sara Fiene, MD will detail the use of the Autospreader Graft to Prevent Nasal Obstruction. The spreader graft has been the gold standard technique for reconstruction of the nasal midvault. However, the autospreader flap technique offers an alternative that requires less dissection than a traditional graft, minimizes graft slippage and decreases operative time.
Cosmetic surgeons can change people’s lives by the successful management of the disfiguring condition of Rhinophyma, which results in sometimes dramatic nasal tip irregularity and enlargement. Mark Baucom, MD, FAACS, FAAD, FACMS will present a number of cases corrected through surgical reduction and resurfacing under local anesthesia.
The session will conclude with a 20-minute Q&A discussion with the panelists and attendees.
